We know that dealing with a vehicle that won't run can be incredibly frustrating. Whether your car has been sitting for months or has a dead engine, we want you to know that we accept non-running cars for donation. Instead of worrying about repairs or towing expenses, you can choose to donate your vehicle and support local causes in the Chicago area.
When you donate your non-running car to Gear Up Giving, we handle everything from pickup to paperwork. You don’t need to stress over the condition of your vehicle – we accept cars that don’t start, need repairs, or are even considered salvaged. You'll receive a 1098-C tax form, so you can benefit from the actual sale proceeds of your donation while helping those in need.

How pickup works for damaged vehicles
Schedule Your Pickup
Once you complete the donation form, our team will contact you to schedule a convenient time for pickup. We work around your schedule to make this process as easy as possible.
Prepare for Pickup
Ensure that there is a clear access path for our flatbed tow truck. We need approximately 25 feet of space to safely load your vehicle onto the truck.
Pickup Day
On the scheduled day, our team will arrive with a flatbed truck to safely tow your non-running car. No need to worry about starting your vehicle – we handle everything.
Paperwork Completion
Our team will assist you in completing the necessary paperwork, including the 1098-C form, so you can enjoy your tax benefits from the donation.
Honest value expectations
When donating a non-running vehicle, it's important to have realistic expectations regarding its value. Typically, depending on factors like the vehicle's year, make, and parts condition, the auction-sale value ranges from $200 to $800. High-value components like catalytic converters and aluminum parts can increase this value, while a documented engine rebuild might also fetch a higher amount. However, vehicles that are salvage-only may fall on the lower end of this range. Rest assured, we will facilitate the donation process to ensure you still benefit from your generous contribution.
Diagnose or donate?
If your vehicle is non-running, you might be considering spending money on diagnostics or repairs. However, it may not be worth it. By donating your vehicle, you can skip the hassle and costs associated with fixing it. You’ll still receive tax benefits from the sale of the vehicle, making it a more straightforward option. Consider whether the potential sale value after repairs truly outweighs the immediate benefit of donating.
